Ask three labs what recovery costs, and you’ll get three answers, none of them a number.

There’s a reason for that. But it isn’t the whole story; real prices do get published in India. Here’s what data recovery cost looks like in 2026, and what moves it.

Drives fail quietly. Backblaze logged a 1.36% annualised failure rate across 349,462 drives in 2025. Small, until it’s yours.

What Actually Drives Data Recovery Cost

Ontrack puts it well: cost is determined “not by the quantity of data or the size of the drive, but rather by the time and effort” that goes into getting the data back.

So a 4TB drive with a corrupted partition table is cheap. A 500GB drive with seized heads isn’t.

The dividing line is logical versus physical. Logical failures deletion, formatting, corruption get solved with software and patience. Physical failures need the drive opened, and that happens in a Class 100 cleanroom, which the FDA equates to ISO 5: no more than 3,520 half-micron particles per cubic metre. A dust speck is bigger than the gap between head and platter. Hence the room. Hence the price.

Donor parts add to it. Stellar keeps 15,000+ donor drives, and says a single recovery typically consumes spares from two or three.

Hard Drive Data Recovery Cost in India

Some actual published numbers.

Stellar, India’s largest branded data recovery company, lists ₹999 for inspection and recovery starting at ₹3,999 on a no-recovery-no-charge basis, for drives up to 16TB. Their FAQ gives the fuller picture: hard drive data recovery cost in India “generally ranges from ₹3,000 to ₹25,000 or more”, depending on severity.

Bengaluru’s Cromac publishes tiers with a similar structure. Logical failure on a drive up to 1TB: ₹3,000–₹5,000. Physical failure: clicking, damaged heads, dead spindle motor: ₹10,000–₹20,000 plus spares. Roughly a fourfold jump, same drive.

SSD Data Recovery Cost

Flash costs more. Stellar states it plainly: the data recovery cost for SSDs is higher compared to HDDs and points to architecture: TRIM, NAND density, error correction, built-in encryption.

Cromac’s numbers show the gap. Logical SSD data recovery cost for up to 512GB runs ₹5,000–₹10,000. Physical recovery, when the NAND or controller is gone, costs ₹25,000–₹45,000.

One catch before you pay. On a self-encrypting drive, recovery needs your credentials. No password, no data whichever data recovery firm you hand it to.

RAID Data Recovery Cost

Now the awkward part: almost nobody in India publishes one.

Stellar’s price table stops at flash media. Against RAID, NAS, and SAN, it says only a quote is provided on demand. Ontrack takes the same line globally. RAID data recovery cost can’t really be listed; array size, RAID level, controller behaviour, and how many members dropped all change the job.

What you can control is the damage before it starts. Ontrack’s warning deserves repeating: the majority of avoidable damage happens in the first sixty minutes after a failure, through human action. Forced rebuilds. Swapped disks. CHKDSK on a degraded array. Each one raises RAID data recovery cost, occasionally past the point of recovery.

Power it down. Then call.

Mobile Data Recovery

Phones are their own discipline. Mobile data recovery covers deleted messages, photos, app data, and chat histories, and pricing splits the same way a logical extraction and a chip-off are nothing alike.

Water damage, a snapped board, or a locked bootloader all push mobile data recovery into lab work.

The final data recovery cost depends on the phone model, damage level, storage, and recovery method.

Choosing a Data Recovery Company in India

Four questions before you ship anything:

  1.   What does evaluation cost, and is it truly no-recovery-no-fee?
  2.   Do you own a Class 100 cleanroom, or subcontract it?
  3.   Will I see a file list before I pay?
  4.   How is my data handled, and destroyed afterwards?

The second matters more than the quote. Plenty of outfits selling data recovery services India-wide just forward drives to another lab. Their data recovery solutions are somebody else’s.

Proximity helps too. A data recovery company in Ahmedabad or a data recovery company in Delhi lets you hand the drive over rather than courier it, and couriering a failed drive carries its own risk. Any data recovery company in India worth using will show you the lab.

FAQ’s

1. Is free evaluation standard in India?

Widely offered, not universal. Stellar charges ₹999 for inspection; Ontrack and several Indian labs assess at no cost. Confirm before shipping.

2. Why won’t anyone quote RAID over the phone?

Too many variables: level, member count, controller state, which disk dropped first. Reputable data recovery experts price it after imaging.

3. Can I try software first?

For accidental deletion on a healthy drive, yes. If it’s clicking, grinding, or undetected, powering it up again causes damage. Stop there.

4. Which cities do you cover?

As a data recovery company in Ahmedabad and a data recovery company in Delhi, we take drives in person. Elsewhere, any decent data recovery firm should put collection terms in writing.

5. What inflates the bill most?

Previous attempts. A drive opened outside a cleanroom, or an array somebody tried to rebuild, arrives harder and dearer.
